新高中應用學習科之反思與檢討

摘要
應用學習科(Applied Learning,
APL),是香港新高中學制的新設學科之一,其學習範疇極為彈性,學生能根據本身之性向與能力自由選擇,透過實際操作來掌握不同技能,正正回應了課改提出「學生為中心」、「體驗式學習」及「發展學生共通能力」等範式轉移的新教學模式。鑑於新高中課程推出時間不多,新高中應用學習科之實際功效,以及新高中教師之專業感知少有全面探討。故此,筆者希望通過本次質性研究,為應用學習課程的相關議題提供教師之真實意見,以作學界檢討與反思之用。
本文為質性研究,筆者邀請了八名任教新高中課程的,曾帶領應用學習科的教師作深度訪談,輔以與應用學習之相關報導作分析,以期與訪談結果互相印證,確保資料與研究結果之效度。本研究發現教師普遍認為應用學習科有助學生就業及提升學生的學習動機,並能滿足學生在職業導向方面的升學需要;局限方面,學校推行的主要局限在於財政資源、人手調撥及課程安排三方面。
總括而言,應用學習科對學生發展利多於弊,然而,該科還有不少優化空間。筆者認為教育局可加強對學校及教師的財政與人手支援,並在大專院校及社會各界加強推廣應用學習科之宗旨及學科實施概況,以加強學科應受性,消除學生、家長及社會各界對應用學習科的疑慮。

Review of Applied Learning (APL) in New Senior Secondary curriculum

Abstract
Applied Learning
(APL) is one of the new established subjects in Hong Kong. It provides a highly
flexible learning field for the students and allows the student to choose their
electives according to their own interest and abilities. The student can equip
with different vocational skills through block practice, which has responded to
the paradigm shift of “student-oriented”, “experiential learning” and
“development of generic skills” in the education reform. Since the New senior
secondary curriculum (NSS) has just been implemented not too long ago, there is
no comprehensive discussion on the actual efficacy of APL and the teacher’s
perception on its implementation. This study, therefore, is intended to
investigate the teacher’s actual perception on the efficacy and challenge of APL
implementation, which serves a platform for further discussion.
This study adopts a
qualitative approach. The qualitative data will be collected from the in-depth
interview of eight NSS teachers, who were responsible to design or teach APL
curriculum in schools. Meanwhile, the relevant articles in public media will be
considered as the alternative evidences in order to ensure the research
validity. The findings of this study reveal that the NSS teachers think that APL
can help student to find employment and boost student motivation, while it can also
meet the students’ demand for further study in vocational training. For the
limitation, the main challenges of APL lie in three aspects: financial resource,
manpower deployment and curriculum arrangement.
In conclude, the
students are benefit from the APL. However, APL implementation can be modified
and improved in three dimensions for better results. It is suggested that the government can do more
on promotion in higher education, expanding the vocational fields and providing
more financial and human resource so as to improve the legitimacy of APL
curriculum and reduce the possible suspicion of different stakeholders.
